God is so good and his word is so good and and today yeah and I like us to participate today because church is a participating sport, amen, it's a team sport.

We draw from the Holy Spirit together, amen.

And so when I say can I get an amen, what am I gonna hear?

You know today I want to talk about a subject that's been on my heart for a while and it's gonna probably...

The spirit of God within and the spirit of God upon.

Without the direct involvement of the Holy Spirit, our religion is dead.

And there's a lot of dead religion going on around there around here because people have sort of left the Holy Spirit left the word they just want to do some good works maybe but you know they've got the form of godliness but they deny the power thereof and we just don't want acquainted with the Holy Spirit I want to be acquainted with what he's saying what he's doing you know we talked previously about the Spirit speaks expressly The Holy Spirit is always speaking and always saying something, but we need to become acquainted with what He's saying and how He speaks and get familiar with the voice of the Holy Spirit.

You know, for example, some church says, God is love, sin is okay.

And so, you know, we don't want to judge but judge not lest he be judged Well, we're not judging people.

We love people Amen, or judging actions and lifestyles, but everybody makes judgments at 1 point or another.

What is right, what is wrong, what is good to do, what is bad to do, what God wants us to do, what God doesn't want us to do.

Because there's no right and there's no wrong, therefore there's no way to judge.

Well, so when people say, judge not lest you be judged, really they don't follow that thought fully through in many cases now You know I don't want to be a judgmental person at all and I'm sure you don't either because I can love people and and validate them as people with dignity, no matter what.

To them, and show concern and compassion for them.

But yet if we don't raise up a standard as far as what's gonna be right, what's gonna be wrong, who is?

And so, but the Holy Spirit on the inside of us, but you know, you can be totally right but And and so we as believers we need to be in touch with the Holy Spirit on how to raise up that standard and how to love people.

It's time to love people into raise up a standard of righteousness but do it in a loving way.

You know, like I said, you can be totally right and yet be totally wrong in your presentation.

And so the Holy Spirit will guide us and give us wisdom and he'll prompt us and he'll show us his heart and how to as far as how to approach people and how to reach people's hearts and some parts we will be able to reach with the help of the Holy Spirit.

And you know the Word and the Spirit they always agree.

Now some churches like I said they believe that because God is love sin is okay.

In some churches, any church that doesn't believe And so, any church that doesn't believe about the word heresy, they start bandying about.

We love the church down the street and we share, you know, things in common.

I mean, I realize that we believe a little bit different than the Catholics.

But yet, at the same time, we share a lot of things in common with them, amen?

And so, we can fellowship over what we have.

In fourth grade, I got a best friend, his name was Troy.

So we had some things we just didn't talk about.

We talked about it a couple times and we sort of ran into an impasse.

And so, but we became best friends and we encouraged each other all through junior high, all through high school, all through college until we… We stirred up the gift in each other as iron sharpens iron so the countenance of 1 man sharpens that of his friend and he was Southern Baptist and I was Assembly of God.

We shared so much, we had Jesus in common, amen?

And so we don't have to be all the spiritual word police, amen?

When I was younger, I remember these ministers, and they didn't mean anything by it.

They said to me, I was maybe 17, they said, how you doing, Ken?

And they scolded me, they said, don't ever say that, say you're blessed.

And they didn't mean to condemn me, they were just getting into the word and excited about the word and they wanted to encourage me in the word.

We're talking about the spirit within and the spirit upon, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Well now some churches they dispensationalize away miracles and the gifts of the Spirit.

And we desire the gifts of the Spirit here and we desire miracles and a little bit later we're going to talk about tongues and interpretations and the gifts of the spirit.

Probably next week we'll get more into that.

And so, but just because they do that doesn't mean that we have to fight a war.

And how do you, how are we led by the spirit of God?

When, you know, I mean, How in the world does the spirit of God, you know, guide you into the practice of snake handling?

Please don't bring a snake to church, all right?

And I don't want to make fun of them at all.

But the thing is, they make you wear special underwear.

There's no limit to the variety of things that people think that the Holy Spirit is leading them to do.

And so, you know, we can get off on the ditch 1 way or another, but it's not that hard to hear from the Holy Spirit.

And so let's, we will have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof if we don't learn how to hear accurately from the Holy Spirit.

In fact when you got born again, though you heard that Holy Spirit It's called the prevenient grace.

I mean when I was 7 years old, I heard the Holy Spirit I mean he was had me convicted.

I was convicted He said to me you need me and you need me now.

How many people heard the Holy Spirit when you got born again?

And so, accurate guidance, and thank God we don't have to go find out where to buy a couple rattlesnakes amen?

So in John chapter 14 verse 16 Jesus said and I will pray the Father and he will give you another comforter, that he may abide with you forever.

Now let's look at that word another in the Greek word.

There are 2 words for another, 2 Greek words.

The second Greek word for another is allos, which means another of the same kind.

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, another of the exact same kind to be our comforter.

So you don't have to say, oh, wouldn't it be great during the days of Jesus?

If Jesus had been here, then we could know the truth.

Number 1, Jesus never went more than, what, 30, 40 miles away from his birthplace.

And he's another of the exact same people that Jesus did.

He is every bit equal with Jesus Christ himself.

He is the second person or the third person of the Trinity.

And so, that another is the exact same thing.

It's not like Jesus said, you know, I'm going to be busy.

I've got to go up to heaven and build a bunch of mansions, and that's a lot of work, you know.

And so, I'm gonna send my assistant down here to try to keep the ship from sinking while I'm gone, but let's hope you...

And then it says that, he says, I will pray the Father and give you another comforter.

That word comforter, The Greek word for that is, who knows what it is?

I'm sure you've heard it, paraclete, paracletos.

It means Counselor, intercessor, advocate, standby, strengthener, advisor.

Standby, intercessor, advisor, and teacher, and a few other words that I may have said twice and some I didn't say yet.

Now we may not know the whole thing, the whole picture, but when we ask God for guidance, when we ask Him for direction in our lives, when we ask Him for something, He's gonna be able to lead us into the truth, amen?

Now there's some people, they try to be led by the Holy Spirit apart from the Word.

The Spirit will never depart from what the Word says, amen?

Now sometimes you may get a remedy, it's not a specific word, it will always be a biblical word.

And so in order to be led by the Spirit of God, it pays to be a very strong student of the Word of God.

We have a right, it's our inheritance, it's our God-given right to be led by the Holy Spirit.

But it's important for us to get a feel for how the Holy Spirit speaks, what He's like, what His tenor is like.

You know the Bible says that the wisdom that is from above is peaceable, pure, gentle.

There's a difference between conviction and condemnation.

See conviction, conviction has always got a solution.

Conviction is what you heard when God was moving you into the kingdom.

That's how the Holy Spirit deals with shortcomings and sin in our life, through conviction.

Condemnation says that you'll never measure up.

And the Holy Spirit is always, it's good to be convicted.

It's really, really good to be convicted of sin, amen.

Pent, that second part of that word comes from the same word as penthouse.

When you repent, you turn, but you go up.

And so conviction precedes repentance, amen?

And so I'm okay being convicted by the Holy Spirit because I'm...

I'm not being condemned, I'm not being punished.

I'm being loved and I'm being corrected and I'm being directed and I'm growing up in Him, amen?

And so He does all these good things but He does more than that.

He comforts in a wonderful way And he guides and he leads and he'll give us a word in season to speak to somebody and he'll navigate through our lives.

And so the Holy Spirit is so good and he's every bit as good as Jesus.

He's our standby, our strength and our advisor.

Many of these words that are used take...

The Holy Spirit is going to the eternal court for on our behalf and he has never lost a case because the number 1 thing He says to the accuser of the brethren is he says the blood of Jesus covers this.

This person has been raised up and brought out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God's dear son, and therefore he's declared not guilty.

Hallelujah, that's a good feeling, isn't it?

There's no need to say, oh, if only Jesus were here to help me, I could find out my way through this mess.

You know, Jesus sent another of the exact same kind.

And he's every bit as able to meet your need as if Jesus himself were here in person right now to meet your need.

In other words, the Holy Spirit is co-equal to Jesus.

And he's here for the very express purpose of glorifying God in us.

I've been riding pretty consistently for, oh, I don't know, about 17 years now.

And I used to be big, strong, and overweight.

And I realized that was not a long-term health plan.

And so I totally quit lifting weights and bought a bicycle.

And I've been riding for 17 years trying to lose weight.

I've done 2 trips across the country from coast to coast, and I've ridden from here down to North Carolina.

And so I'm excited about this time of year, amen?

But there's something, you know, I noticed the races and the pro races, the peloton is the leading group in these pro races.

And they have these 21-day races, they have the Tour de France, and they have other races like that, and they have the champions and the favorites.

Invited to this world-class race, And the best riders in the world are going to this race.

And they're giving everything they got, because if they even win 1 stage in the Tour de France, their name goes down in history.

They're famous because they won 1 stage out of the 21 stages in the Tour de France.

But there's something called the domestiques.

Has anybody ever heard of that, the domestiques?

Well what they are is they are entrusted with 1 job.

They are not they're not expected to win.

They are expected to sacrifice themselves and serve that captain in any way they can and do any desperate thing that they can do to get their captain to win the race.

1 of the things they do is when you're going 25 mile, 20, 25 miles an hour depending how fast you're going, you've got between 15 and 20 percent of your energy is wasted on wind resistance.

They surround that captain and they go in front of them and to the side.

Might be going 25 on the flats, 30 something, a little over 30 miles an hour, and their captain is going, whistling, while They're pedaling as hard as they possibly can because they're just pulling him.

The Holy Spirit is there and he's our super super domain and and what he's here to do is here to make sure That we win.

He's pulling us through the storms and the winds of life.

And so what they do is they'll even, if the captain gets a flat and if there's not a support, the team members will take their tire off, their wheel off, switch wheels because you all got the same bike on the same team and to get that captain going again.

And then the other ones will literally sacrifice themselves, they might be a mile behind because it took them time to switch wheels, right?

And they will sacrifice themselves to pull that captain back up to the position he needs to be so that he's in a position to win that race at the end of the race.

A lot of you might have not known how strategic bicycle racing was.

And you know, sometimes they use those performance enhancing drugs, you know, PEDs.

Well, we use PEDs, that's called performance enhancing dreams.

And so the Holy Spirit, He is our advocate and it's His job to get us to win in life through Jesus Christ, amen?

And so, you know, if you don't know any area of sin that's in your life, and I feel like this is just quickened to me by the Holy Spirit a little bit earlier, so I'm gonna say it, but you feel anxiety or you feel potential condemnation or guilt, realize that that's not the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit when He convicts you, He will show you what area you need to make an adjustment in.

Fought, that you need to make an adjustment.

Why not just enjoy Christ and enjoy His peace?

Thank you for being the 1 who leads me into all truth.

And I'm going to experience the fullness of that, of what you have for me in that regard, amen?

The Holy Spirit, in a way, except He's God, is our super domestique.

Be perfect and that the things aren't going to happen, but I'm going to say that through the midst of it we can have joy.

I'm going to say that through the midst of it we are more than conquerors through Him who strengthened us and loved us, amen?

I'm going to say that the Holy Spirit all the time in any and every situation is gonna have a still small word of comfort and guidance and love and encouragement.

But whether it's quiet or loud, it's time to hear the Holy Spirit.

I want to say just a few things about the Holy Spirit.

Number 1, it is imperative that we become very well acquainted with the Holy Spirit.

We need to be able to understand the flow of the Holy Spirit and understand the direction of the service in church, understand how he flows at church, understand how he flows at home, understand how he flows in our relationships and on the job, and understand how...

And get familiar with the Holy Spirit, amen?

And as we do so, we'll be successful in the areas of life.

So the first thing is, it's imperative that we become very well acquainted with the Holy Spirit.

Spirit, we need to check it with the Word.

Because the Word is Jesus and the Holy Spirit is God also and Jesus said He's going to take my words and show them to you.

So that means the Holy Spirit is not going to have a different type of words.

He's not going to have a different message.

And so it's important to become very well familiarized with the Word of God.

But when the Comforter has come, whom I will send unto you, He shall testify of me.

So the spirit of truth testifies, he comes from the Father and he testifies of Jesus.

How does it feel when the Holy Spirit speaks to us?

Well, according to the Bible, it says he gives us comfort, not anxiety.

It says, there he may be with you forever.

And he'll stand by you forever, not abandon you.

That's the Spirit of God on the inside of us.

That's the Spirit of God who is with us forever.

That's the Holy Spirit that we can get familiar with and we can be led and consistently.

I'll be honest with you, I don't get a word all the time.

In fact, there's been only been a couple times in my life when I don't know if it was audible or if it was just such a strong impression, it was just like being audible.

But frequently, often, he will prompt things in me.

You know, like last week, he prompted in my heart, go talk to this person about Jesus.

And so I called him up, he didn't answer, I wanted to come to his house.

I said, well, the Holy Spirit told me to talk to him, so I'm not giving up.

I drove out of my way, I said, the Holy Spirit spoke to me, so I...

And he called me and says, I see you called me last night.

I said, you mind if I come over to your house this morning?" He said, yeah, come on over.

I said, it's something good, don't worry.

And so I went over to his house and I gave him a Billy Graham track and I loved on him and told him that God loved him and told him that God has been hearing his prayers.

And I said, you mentioned before that there must be more in life and this is it.
