Meet Prof. Tali Ilovitsh and her “nanobubbles” laboratory at Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Bioengineering. Prof. Ilovitsh’s new ultrasound technology delivers targeted, non-invasive cancer treatment to destroy cancers of the brain, as well as other organs.

My name is Tali Ilovich and I'm a senior lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tel Aviv University.

You're standing in my ultrasound biomedical research lab.

We are combining different techniques from biomedical engineering, physics, medicine and biology, and together we are trying to answer questions to help solve current issues like cancer therapy and brain therapy.

We develop tiny gas bubbles, they are called nanobubbles.

These nanobubbles in response to ultrasound expand and contract repeatedly.

We inject them systemically to the bloodstream.

They accumulate within the tumor region and then we externally apply the low-frequency focused ultrasound.

We avoid damage elsewhere, and we can target the tumor directly.

This low frequency causes the nanobarboles to violently collapse, and the destruction of the tumor without any invasive procedure.

What I love most about Tel Aviv University is the students.

They are the power that moves forward the research and without them nothing could have happened.

The second thing I like is the strong infrastructure that we have here and the multidisciplinary facilities that exist here that enable us to conduct our research.

If we are able to develop a technique with ultrasound to treat aggressive brain cancer non-invasively and help these patients that would be a major breakthrough I really hope to achieve in the lab.
