Before I start, what character should I play versus?

Or a level 1, actually, because we're on lecture 1.

Every lecture we'll play on a high level computer.

So, yeah, I'm actually playing right now.

I have my gamepube controller right here for those who know me in my past I used to play this game Very competitively, But the reason I'm showing you this game is because in Super Smash Bros.

Melee, the players themselves, they actually practice the same moves over and over again.

For example, this move right here, this is called the Wave Dash.

And the players will practice this move over and over and over again Thousands of times like a day until they get it perfect.

Now the goal of these labs that I'm trying to get across to you all here today is I want you to actually practice these like fundamental things the things that you know You may just skip over for example at the end of the day when you work on your idea You're gonna be making a lot of decisions And I want you to actually be like practicing the more simple decisions and 1 of the first decisions that you got is actually the decision of You know what idea do you work on and how do you talk about your idea?

It's like a fundamental thing that you actually need to do right?

So Just like this the the just like the pros and super smash brothers You know practice the same move over and over again until they don't get bored, or even if it does get boring, they still do it because they know it'll make them better players, right?

Similarly with you all, that's what I want this lab to be about.

And also, how many people we got right now?

So we got 1600 people here right now it looks like we already we already had half the gang drop off so that's pretty interesting but that's kind of what we I said day 1 right I kind of just said that people are gonna are people are gonna leave But thank you to all 1600 of you for sticking around.

So over the last few days, you all have been posting your idea slide, right?

It's like almost I think every I've seen just like thousands of thousands of posts across all platforms.

This is what my timeline looks like right now.

Season 3, I thought we couldn't top that.

But season 4 is absolutely insane in terms of like the quantity of ideas.

But I mean, not just the quantity, to be honest, it's also just, I mean, I feel like the quality of ideas is actually there, you know?

I feel like everybody's actually working on something pretty coherent, which is pretty cool.

And yeah, my timeline is absolutely flooded.

I know I'm the founder of BuildSpace, so my algorithm is only BuildSpace, but has anybody else got like a flooded timeline on like LinkedIn, Twitter?

Because again, I can't control the algorithm, you know?

And you know, we have so many ideas being posted, so many different ideas.

These are some ideas that I picked where I said to myself, when I saw the idea, I said to myself, you know, I'd definitely check this out if it existed This is 1 of the first ones we got Alec here He's working on his first single on his metal core EP press 1 if you check out Alex single We got soul ninja here working on a low friction micro blogging platform.

We got Manson here working on actually 1 of my favorite ideas I've seen so far.

A way to automatically build video ads with AI.

By the way Manson if you're watching this, this is an amazing idea.

Please email me I will help you with this like personally I love this idea.

But we have all sorts of ideas where I'm like, Oh my God, like I would actually check this out if it existed, which is pretty cool.

I also saw a lot of ideas that just like sounded useful.

For example, this person is working in an online school to help fix your lifestyle through yoga.

So, sore back, sleepy mornings, unhealthy eating, you know, be a little bit better with yoga.

Now, This person is actually working on something really cool a one-stop shop for college essentials Muskan's working on this so apparently They're working on 1 place where you can buy everything you need for your college dorm at 1 spot So you don't have to go to like 10 different places.

That's pretty cool shot to Muskan We got Shweta here working on a how-to guide for e-commerce founders.

If you ever want to be an e-commerce founder, you need a guide, right?

And then of course, anybody saw some ideas that they were like, bruh, they were just like, yo, what the, what the fuck, how?

Or they were like, that sounds almost too crazy.

And I looked at this person's background and it seems like they're pretty legit.

So through the use of direct air capture and sugar-based fuel cells, we can turn the world's most abundant yet deadly byproduct into a renewable resource.

We have this person working on Helltide, a top-down horde survival game.

Weedle Champ, A devilishly addicting Diablo meets vampire survivor game.

And then of course, I think a lot of people saw this guy.

This person's idea was just Iron Man suit.

So again, you have all these beautiful ideas, right?

So thank you to all of you for actually posting these idea slides.

I know Some of you may be like, oh my God, why the fuck is this guy?

Why is he making me post my stuff on my social media and use these anime pictures and these templates and all this stuff, you know?

It may not feel like true progress to you right now, but you are now coherently talking about your idea publicly, you are actually moving forward.

It doesn't exist maybe, but you're already taking steps forward and making progress just by being able to talk coherently about your idea.

I'm telling you, it's not only progress, but it's also just extremely inspiring.

If it's not inspiring to you, just know you're inspiring me, you're inspiring Alec, you're inspiring Josh, you're inspiring everybody who's looking at it online, you know, if not for yourself, do it for others.

And also, just funny, I was scrolling for like

minutes this morning, so it's pretty addicting.

And I want to say 1 more thing here, but before I go that, I want to talk about the OS really quick.

These are legitimate videos of people that they're doing.

So I highly recommend that you at least like go on your phone to BuildSpace and then like check out what people are doing.

It's a very different way to actually scroll through the ideas because I think a lot of people here are used to Twitter and are used to that vibe, but this is a very different vibe.

So let's talk about what we're doing here in particular.

But today I want to actually go through some ideas that were posted.

I'm gonna actually go through like 15 different ideas that I saw on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.

I want to make it clear, as I go through these ideas, I'm not talking about how good or bad the idea is.

At this stage, there's no such thing as a good or bad idea.

Right now, my only goal for every single 1 of you in this chat is to optimize for clarity.

I want you to optimize for a very clear, concise, simple idea that you can wrap your head around.

Because if you can't wrap your head around it, other people definitely won't be able to.

And you maybe, you know, someone in the chat may be saying this, they may be like, Farza, why are we focusing, why is this guy focusing so much on 1 slide?

Again, you know, just like, you know, the players who played Super Smash Brothers, right?

It's okay to practice your fundamental skills like that are going to make up like your whole game plan, right?

At the end of the day, your idea is where it all starts from.

You know, like that just makes sense to me.

This lab is about us reviewing some ideas and learning from other people and their mistakes and what they did well.

And then we're gonna take those learnings and we're gonna help you improve your idea right now at the end of the stream.

And again, the reason we're doing this is you want this really solid foundation that you can stand on going to next week.

Because after this week, this week is kind of chill to be honest, by BuildSpace standards.

We actually made week 1 of nights and weekends a little bit more chill.

Weeks 2 to 6 is going to be extremely intense where we actually tell you to go make it, to actually go ship it, to actually go build your idea.

And we're going to expect progress every single week.

But this week, I just want you all to kind of like, take a step back, just like think about your idea, and at least have that foundation.

And I want you to remember if you cannot think clearly about the idea, you cannot start walking.

This is a GPS from this coffee shop that I go to every morning called Phil's Coffee on Polk Street.

If you go there in the mornings, all the way to where I work, which is Fort Mason, right?

At the end of the day, I know what my destination is, right?

So I'm able to actually walk to my destination.

And for all, a lot of you, your idea is actually, in many ways, your destination.

And how the fuck are you gonna start moving toward your destination if you don't even know what your destination is, right?

So at the very least, take this time, even if you feel hyper clear about your idea, that's fine, Let's get more clear on it.

Like you can never, you can never, be too clear about your idea in my opinion.

You know, it doesn't matter if you have thousands of millions of people using your thing.

It doesn't matter if you have 0, the best creators, the best builders that I've ever seen always rethink their ideas.

Like can anyone mention like a favorite musician of theirs in the chat real quick?

This is your favorite musician right now.

Taylor Swift, Mozart, Daft Punk, Convoke.

Oh, yo Convoke is actually 1 of my favorites of all time.

Actually, my favorites are gonna be like Muse, Bring Me the Horizon, and Lil Peep.

The chances are everybody you're talking about right now in the chat, they constantly are reimagining their ideas, right?

Reimagining your idea and rethinking your idea never ends.

Lady Gaga that I listened to in the sixth grade is very different than the Lady Gaga I listened to at the age of 28.

She, she, she, she made her ideas better.

So again, without this destination, you are simply lost.

And, this is something where I'm curious if you all are feeling the benefit.

Like, I'm curious if you all agree with the statement.

Like, do you agree that how you talk about the idea early is important?

Ideally you do believe that how you talk about the idea really, oh, is there ads?

Okay once again everyone, it's playing ads for some people.

Let's play some melee No, they can't hear me Are the ads almost over 1 second everybody the ads are playing still We have to wait for everybody to get out of the ads.

You know, to be honest with you all, we want to stream on YouTube, but then YouTube has a bunch of rules around the music, so I can't play our anime music on YouTube.

Alright perfect, I was just hanging around playing some Smash Brothers.

Again, with Twitch, they play ads randomly.

I promise we're not trying to make money off of you right now.

I was asking you all, do you remember, do you agree with this sentence?

Like just say yes if you agree with the sentence say no if you don't it's totally fine if you don't agree by the way That how you talk about your idea early on is just really really important I think everybody knows this feeling when someone at a when you tell someone your idea and They're just like Oh, yeah Yeah, That's cool, man.

That is so depressing when someone does that, right?

When someone just like does not understand what's going on, all of a sudden, you feel like you're working on something that's garbage, all of a sudden they think you're working on something that's garbage.

It's it's just, it feels a lot better when someone just, It feels a lot better when someone just understands your idea, right?

This is an idea that I worked on when I was 19.

This thing got like almost like a million users on it within like 3 months when I made it back then.

It was a website for my friends to listen to music while playing League of Legends.

Now, I talked about this idea with my friends every day for months and months and months.

And when I actually launched it to Reddit after like a couple of months, I got 19, 000 upvotes.

I got so good at talking about my idea with my friends, just accidentally, that I ended up, absolutely popping off and going super viral.

Now I did that accidentally, and I want you all to do that purposefully, right?

Where you actually get good at talking about your ideas.

And you may be saying to yourself, you know, Farza, I'm just making this for myself.

I'm a researcher, scientist thing, and I need to do my work.

I don't care what other people think all I'm gonna say is you know you can be a lonely artist I just don't recommend it even Einstein had colleagues even the world's best musician had people that they showed their work to.

Everyone at 1 point ends up having to show somebody else their work.

See them as like these power-ups for your idea.

For example, when someone's at a party and they're like, not understanding your idea, don't see them as someone that just doesn't get your idea.

Just see them as someone that, you know, just see that as like a thing that you need to work on, right?

And I want you all to focus on, like, as I go through these idea slides, by the way, I have like almost

I want you to focus on what you like, what you don't like, what excites you, and what doesn't excite you.

Again, if I put up a slide, it's not about whether it's a good or bad idea right now.

I don't want you to rate how good or bad these ideas are.

I want you to actually think through, do I understand this idea?

Can I visualize what this person is gonna make?

Like, you should be able to read someone's slide, close your eyes, and visualize exactly what they're gonna make right, what they're gonna work on.
